Spencer & Penelope

spencer.jpg

“Together is our favorite place to be.”

Spencer’s front legs developed abnormally.

Penelope’s eyes don’t work like they do for most.

They don’t know the world without each other by their side.

Which is why when we were asked to give them both a forever home, we couldn’t say no.

They haven’t spent a single moment separated from each other by more than a few feet.

One would think that Penelope, unable to see the world around her, would experience more distress is she couldn’t find her brother. When in reality it’s the other way around. Spencer will not settle down for a nap, for the night, or even for his bottle if his sister isn’t right at his side.

They’ve spent their life since they got to us in the dog yard, with a tent up for shade, and an outdoor kennel to protect them from the elements. They have been loved on and cuddled with everyday. Shortly after they arrived we put a bell on Spencer’s collar to help Penelope find him as he used his Spider-Man like legs to get around.

Their friendship, unique and special has inspired so many already by providing a reminder that no matter how young, no matter what makes you different, you can change the world for someone else. We are waiting on Spencer’s braces for his front legs, hopeful they will take the pressure off his shoulders as he continues to grow. Penelope has a follow up with the eye doctor next month.

But their differences don’t stop them. Spencer is still Penelope’s eyes at any point. Penelope is still her brothers comfort. They both have offered up a world of laughter, compassion and hope to children and adults alike.

Different is beautiful.

Together is a wonderful place to be.

No matter what you can make a difference.

Young.

Blind.

Different.

Miracle goats.

With a forever home in our gates changing the lives of everyone around them with the unconditional love that makes the magic happen.
